Buy this Mid-Century Modern Masterpiece (MCMM) for $1!
It was designed by Paul Thiry, the ‘father of Northwest modernism’, and built in 1962. Here is a drawing from a 1967 magazine cover, and a full video tour below (well worth the 10 minutes):
Of course there is a catch, the new owner must pay ~$240,000 to have this ~200 ton house moved off of the waterfront lot . It gets worse, from the Seattle Times article:
It breaks the sisters’ hearts, then, to know that their childhood home — designed by Paul Thiry, the so-called “father of Northwest modernism” — risks being destroyed unless someone steps forward — probably within days — to claim it for its $1 price tag. The current owners, who live next door, have other plans for the site.
Full details are available on the house movers website here: Nickel Brothers
If only there was a MCM lover from Seattle who might want to truck this beauty down to Austin…

One of the great things about specializing in modern architecture is that I often have access to architectural drawings & models of a home (in addition to beautiful photos). In the case of 1011 Canyon Edge I have some of the original architectural drawings, but also a Sketchup model:
Since Google enabled the integration of Sketchup models into Google Earth, I thought it would be cool to record a flyby through the canyon. Let me know what you think in the comments below, and don’t forget to come by the open house on Sunday!
Required Disclaimer: The Sketchup model and/or google earth data may not be to scale or 100% accurate.

An amazing and unique home is about to go on the market, and I wanted to give my readers a heads-up. Contact me if you’d like more information now, I will be listing this home on the MLS soon. It’s located in Eanes ISD near Cuernavaca road. Here is a sneak peek:
This home is an excellent example of simple modern design. The clean lines and natural materials are perfect for the Hill Country setting. Multiple outdoor living areas and expansive glass take full advantage of 180 degree canyon views.
