As a home automation installer, I am finding that the builders are viewing home automation as just another expense.

Many of them are sitting on a lot of inventory and the thought of spending another $5-$10k sends them in shock.

I think two things need to happen:

1) housing market needs tpo pick up

2) manufacturers need to do a better job of marketing the benefits of automation to the public so that they feel that they now "need" it.

I don't know about all the fancy media gadgets, but I would like to see a state of the art security system. I like the idea that there are eyes in my home when I am not around, and I really like the idea of sensors on windows. Great for keeping bad folks out and the kiddos in:) There is definitely value in being able to sleep soundly at night.
